Once again, I'm going to be short and sweet, especially since it's late as I write this. Auburn punched a ticket to its first ever Final Four berth in program history by upsetting Kentucky 77-71 this afternoon. It was definitely one of the most nail-biting March Madness games I've seen.
The injured Chuma Okeke attended the game. An MRI scan Saturday revealed that Okeke had torn an ACL in his left knee, and he will undergo surgery on Tuesday with Dr. James Andrews. Okeke will obviously be held out of action for a while. Despite that, the Tigers proved today that one player's absence doesn't have to doom you. Simply put, the third time was the charm for them against the Wildcats.
Now, the Tigers will have a few days to rest and prepare for a big match with Virginia on Saturday, April 6th. Tipoff has been set for 5:09 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on CBS. Just for the record, the second game between Texas Tech and Michigan State (the latter of which knocked off Duke this afternoon) will follow 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first match.
We can only hope that Auburn will be able to continue its journey toward what they've always dreamed of: Its first national title in program history.

- The baseball team beat South Carolina this afternoon 7-5 in Columbia, to claim the weekend series 2-1. Auburn goes to 22-6 overall, 6-3 in the conference. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they host Georgia Tech in Plainsman Park at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be available online at SECN+.

I'm going to be rather straight and to the point about Auburn's 97-80 upset of top-seeded North Carolina last night. The first half was every bit as wild as I expected. However, I firmly believe that J'von McCormick's buzzer-beating layup to give us the halftime lead was the momentum swinger that ignited the second half onslaught that put this one out of reach.
Another key stat was three-point attempts. The Tigers went 17-for-37 in that category, while the Tar Heels went a paltry 7-of-28. With the victory, Auburn punched a ticket to the Elite Eight, and will face Kentucky tomorrow afternoon at 1:20 p.m. CT on CBS. For all of its thrills and excitement, though, the Tigers' victory was balanced by a terrifying moment.
With roughly eight minutes remaining, Chuma Okeke went up for a layup when he landed awkwardly on his left knee and cried out in pain. Players from both squads gathered around him in prayer. On top of that, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl couldn't hold back tears when asked about Okeke's injury during his postgame interview on the TBS telecast. It was impossible to blame him. Plus, it should come as no surprise that the Auburn locker room was very quiet and subdued due to that terrifying incident.
This morning, Pearl shared the latest on Okeke with ESPN's "College GameDay." He said that the sophomore forward was at the hospital getting an MRI. While there is nothing specific known about his injury yet, he said that "we fear for the worst." That's not a good sign. All we can do is keep praying for God's healing power. It's a foregone conclusion that Okeke will be out for the Elite Eight....and beyond. That was certainly not a pleasant way to end a night on which he amassed 20 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
In other news....
- The baseball team won Game 1 of its weekend series with South Carolina last night by a score of 4-2. However, as I write this, Game 2 is in progress, and things aren't going too well, as Auburn trails 4-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning.
That's all for now. Until next time, God Bless, and WAR EAGLE!

After less than three months with Gus Malzahn's program, a 4-star early enrollee is entering the NCAA transfer portal. Defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly announced via Twitter today that he plans to leave Auburn after enrolling there in early January. Kelly, a Chesapeake, Va. native, was a four-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle, the nation's No. 10 athlete and a top five prospect from the state of Virginia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Kelly was previously committed to Virginia Tech, but also held offers from Penn State and received interest from Clemson during his college recruiting process. He stated that he particularly wants to play somewhere closer to home. While this decision may puzzle some Auburn fans, Kelly apparently holds no hard feelings toward the program, school or coaching staff and apparently wants to be closer to his family, as some members are dealing with undisclosed health issues.
I wish Cam'Ron nothing but the best wherever he ends up next.

- The baseball team fell to Alabama last night in the Capital City Classic in Montgomery by a score of 6-3. The Tide went to 20-6 on the season, while Auburn fell to 20-5. The Tigers will return to action in a weekend series at South Carolina. The first game is Friday night at 6 p.m. CT, and will be available online at SECN+. However, Saturday and Sunday's games will be televised on the SEC Network. Saturday's contest is set for noon CT, while Sunday's match is set for 11 a.m. CT.
- The men's basketball team will battle top-seeded North Carolina in a Sweet 16 matchup on Friday night at 6:29 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on TBS.

Auburn will face North Carolina in the Sweet 16 on Friday. The good news for TV viewers is that they won't have to wait until such a late hour for the game to begin this time around. News broke late Sunday evening that the Tigers and Tar Heels will tip off at 6:29 p.m. CT on TBS. The Sweet 16 match in the Midwest Regional is the first game of the day in Kansas City, Mo.
Auburn (28-9) enters the contest on a roll, having won 10 straight games, including an SEC Tournament title against Tennessee, which is also headed to the Sweet 16. The Midwest Regional semifinal game will be followed by No. 2 Kentucky against Houston. The Cougars topped Ohio State last night 74-59.
The No. 5 Tigers opened as a slight underdog to the top-seeded Tar Heels, who dominated No. 9-seed Washington 81-59 yesterday. Auburn thumped No. 4 Kansas 89-75 on Saturday.

- The baseball team lost a wild showdown in the series finale against Mississippi State yesterday by a score of 20-15. The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Montgomery to play Alabama in the annual Capital City Classic. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised by the SEC Network. Auburn is 20-4 overall, 4-2 in conference play. The Tide, meanwhile, is 19-6 overall, 2-4 in the SEC.

I'm in "short and sweet" mode once again today, thanks to pure exhaustion from last night's game against Kansas. But it was well worth it, as Auburn pounded the Jayhawks 89-75 in Vivint Smart Home Arena to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003. This marks the Tigers' fifth such appearance in program history.
To put it bluntly, Auburn looked nearly unstoppable in the first half, and nailed most of its three-pointers like a charm during the contest. The defense, meanwhile, was relatively solid, as it forced 16 turnovers. Its only flaw was that it allowed Kansas too many easy layups. One article I read prior to the game said that the Jayhawks were dominant in the paint, and that certainly became obvious. But in the end, the Tigers did enough to keep themselves out of serious trouble.
Auburn is now 28-9 on the season, while Kansas heads home with a 26-10 slate. Bryce Brown led the Tigers with 25 points. Auburn will advance to play again on Friday against the winner of today's match between North Carolina and Washington. Once that contest is decided, I'm sure we'll find out the time and network for our game soon enough. To say the least, I hope that this one will have an earlier tip time.
In other news....
- The baseball team has thus far split its weekend series with Mississippi State. Auburn won on Friday 6-5, but lost yesterday by a score of 15-2. I'll find out about today's series finale tomorrow.

I'm going to be short and sweet. Auburn came out of the gate rusty against New Mexico State today, then got hot, then seemed to have the victory well in hand, then very nearly blew it right at the end. Fortunately, the Tigers eked out a 78-77 decision over the Aggies as NMS missed a possible game-winning trey at the buzzer.
Auburn will play again on Saturday against the winner of Kansas vs. Northeastern, which is in progress as I write this. But if the Tigers want to get any closer to a chance at all the marbles, they've got to get rested up and correct their foul troubles....fast. That was one factor that almost cost us the win. Those final seconds seemed like an eternity. One large positive from this one, though, was that the Tigers nailed an NCAA Tournament-record 12 three-pointers in the contest.
With the women's team also playing on Saturday against BYU at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2, it looks like we'll have a double dose of basketball on tap. We can only hope that both teams come out on top....and, if possible, do so without giving any of us near-cardiac arrests.

- The baseball team beat UAB on Tuesday 13-5. Next on the docket is a weekend series with Mississippi State in Starkville. The first game is set for tomorrow at 6 p.m. CT. All three games will be available online at SECN+.

Auburn football will be seven players short during spring practice, head coach Gus Malzahn reported yesterday. Five players will be out due to injuries, while two others will be committed to Auburn's track and field team.
The injury list is as follows: defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk (foot), defensive back Jordyn Peters (foot), safety Smoke Monday (shoulder), tight end Luke Deal (knee recovery) and receiver Will Hastings (knee recovery). Meanwhile, receiver Anthony Schwartz and running back Shaun Shivers will participate in track instead of spring ball.
While it would be nice to have Schwartz and Shivers on the football field, I think we've seen enough action from them at this point to know that they will be valuable contributions to the team when they return (assuming, of course, that they can stay healthy and stay out of trouble).
In other news.....
- As we all know, the men's basketball team is set to face New Mexico State in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT. However, I found out yesterday about the women's team's destination as well. The women Tigers, as the No. 10 seed, will meet No. 7 BYU at Stanford on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT. That game will be televised by ESPN2.
- The baseball team will play at UAB in Birmingham tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be available online at cusa.tv.
- Former Auburn offensive tackle Calvin Ashley, who left the program earlier this year, is heading to Florida Atlantic, he announced on Twitter yesterday. Ashley is a Florida native who grew up in the Orlando area. In his first season with the Tigers in 2017, he redshirted because of an eye injury that required surgery.
Ashley began the next season as a second-string tackle. He appeared in five games and made one start when he replaced injured starter Jack Driscoll at right tackle on Oct. 6th in a 23-9 loss at Mississippi State. However, Ashley was not on the sideline the next week in a 30-24 home loss to Tennessee and didn't take part in any other games during the season due to what Gus Malzahn called a medical issue - an issue that was kept private.
Ashley took a month off from the program in December, then enrolled in classes at Auburn in January before announcing his intention to leave the school a month later.

The Florida Gators football program announced this morning that Auburn will be their homecoming opponent in 2019. UF is slated to host the Tigers on Oct. 5th. For the Gators, the Auburn game is sandwiched between a contest with Towson on Sept. 28th and the LSU game on Oct. 12th.
Florida is 67-26-2 all-time on Homecoming, as well as 25-5 since 1989. Auburn, however, has owned the Gators as of late, having won the last three meetings. The Tigers upset UF 27-17 in 2006 during Florida's national championship season. Auburn did the same the following year in 2007, a 20-17 decision in Gainesville in which freshman kicker Wes Byrum smacked a 43-yard field goal at the buzzer to lift Auburn to victory. (He actually made it twice, but the first was negated as then-head coach Urban Meyer had called timeout just prior to the snap.
Auburn and Florida last faced off in 2011 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, with the Tigers coming out on top, 17-6. All things considered, this is a pretty bold move by the Gators. To quote Mick Hubert, UF's radio voice since 1989, "OH, MY!" But with Dan Mullen in charge in Gainesville now, every Auburn fan knows that beating him will be far from simple.
Oh, yeah: Did I mention that the Tigers start spring practice today?
In other news....
- The men's basketball team crushed Tennessee yesterday 84-64 to capture its first SEC Tournament title since 1985. It was the second time Auburn had defeated the Vols in a week, the first being an 84-80 upset in the regular-season finale. Now, the No. 5 Tigers will face No. 12-seeded New Mexico State in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 12:30 p.m. CT on TNT.
- The baseball team swept its weekend series with Tennessee by scores of 2-0 on Friday, 5-2 on Saturday and 5-3 on Sunday. Auburn will return to action on Tuesday with a trip to UAB in Birmingham. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. It can also be viewed online at cusa.tv.

Once again, it's late as I type this. Therefore, I will once again be short and sweet. I was pleased with Auburn's resilience and determination in its 73-64 win over South Carolina today. With the victory, the Tigers are advancing to the semifinals in the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2015 and only the fifth time since 2000.
Jared Harper and Bryce Brown were particularly effective, as the two combined for 46 points after being held scoreless in the first half of Thursday's victory against Missouri. Today, Harper led Auburn with 27 points. The defense had a tough time containing South Carolina's Chris Silva, but it did enough things right down the stretch to keep the outcome from truly being in danger.
The Tigers will tangle with Florida tomorrow at noon CT. The game will be televised on ESPN. If you watched today's action, you know that the Gators sent LSU home in dramatic fashion with a game-winning trey with one second left. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Auburn is not dealt the same fate.

- The baseball team began its home series with Tennessee tonight at Plainsman Park. As of this writing, Auburn leads the Vols 2-0 in the 8th inning.

It's late as I write this, so I'm going to keep it brief. I liked what I saw in Auburn's 81-71 win over Missouri today in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The visiting Tigers got off to a slow start, but shook it off and rose up to pull off the win.
On an individual note, Bryce Brown made history when he nailed his fifth trey of the contest. That gave him 109 3-pointers this season, which is a new Auburn single-season record. He finished the afternoon with a team-high 17 points. Our defense, however, was vulnerable at times, especially against Missouri's Jordan Geist, who finished with 25 points, including five treys and six free throws. That kid is clearly a monster (which I mean in the best way possible).
Now, Auburn has to turn the page in a hurry, because they will take on South Carolina tomorrow in the quarterfinals. The Gamecocks topped the Tigers 80-77 earlier this season in the only regular-season match between the two teams. Needless to say, the Tigers can't get the big head. Will the seniors get one step closer to something that they haven't been able to enjoy in their past three seasons on the Plains? Tomorrow will tell the story.
Auburn and South Carolina will square off tomorrow at approximately 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

If you've been following Auburn basketball closely, you know that center Austin Wiley missed action earlier this year due to a leg injury. He later returned to the court in a limited capacity, but was soon sidelined again.
With this week's SEC Tournament looming, Wiley's status is in dire straits, and today, head coach Bruce Pearl spoke about Wiley's condition. According to Pearl, Wiley is back at practice, but is still considered day-to-day as the Tigers prepare for their first contest in Nashville on Thursday afternoon.
If Wiley gets significant playing time, it would do wonders for Auburn, especially on the defensive side. But whether or not he plays, the Tigers have major momentum entering the tournament, having pulled off a big upset of Tennessee last Saturday in the regular-season finale. Auburn will face either Missouri or Georgia on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.

Auburn pulled off a stunning 84-80 upset of fifth-ranked Tennessee in Auburn Arena today - the Tigers' first victory over a Top 5 opponent since shocking Arkansas in 1995. Auburn and the Vols were nip-and-tuck all day long, but the Tigers got off to a hot second-half start and eventually put the icing on the cake with some key shots down the stretch.
Auburn's Jared Harper nailed two treys late - as well as crucial free throws - to seal Tennessee's fate. Samir Doughty sank a 3-pointer of his own off a blocked shot attempt by the Vols' Grant Williams. Chuma Okeke led the Tigers with 22 points, while Harper and Bryce Brown scored 16 apiece. Auburn finished the day 17-of-22 in free throws.
Grant Williams led Tennessee with 25 points. Jordan Bone tallied 17 points, with Jordan Bowden close behind with 16. The Vols will now be focused on tonight's game between LSU and Vanderbilt. If LSU loses, then UT will still win a share of the SEC crown. However, if LSU wins, then Auburn will win the conference title outright.
As for the Tigers, they will open SEC Tournament play in the second round Thursday at 2 p.m. CT against the winner of a first-round game between Missouri and Georgia. After today's victory, the Tigers enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed. Auburn's game will be televised on the SEC Network.
In other news.....
- The women's basketball team was far less fortunate last night, losing a 64-62 heartbreaker to 15th-ranked Texas A&M. Kayla Wells canned a 12-foot jumper with 5.2 seconds left to give the Aggies the winning margin. Auburn, however, is not finished for the year. The Tigers will learn their postseason destination when the NCAA Selection Show airs Monday, March 18th at 6 p.m. CT.
- Auburn football's 2020 class is down one linebacker. News broke today that four-star LB Demouy Kennedy out of Theodore, Ala., is no longer committed to the program. Kennedy was reportedly visiting Florida State today, but only time will tell if he firmly pledges to the Seminoles or turns his eyes toward another school.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kennedy ranks as the No. 6 outside linebacker in the Class of 2020 and the No. 4 overall recruit from the state of Alabama. Auburn's 2020 class is now down to six players, and currently ranks No. 14 in the nation and No. 7 in the SEC, per 247Sports.
- The baseball team shut out Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) 6-0 yesterday. The teams played a doubleheader today, with Auburn winning Game 1 by a score of 5-0. If I have a chance, I'll write about Game 2 tomorrow.

Auburn football appears to be losing a linebacker. AL.com's Matt Zenitz reported yesterday that senior Richard McBryde has entered the NCAA transfer portal. McBryde missed all of last season due to a neck injury.
The rising senior came to Auburn rated as a four-star prospect and a top 200 overall recruit in the country as a member of the Tigers' 2015 recruiting class. Plus, he was an Under Armour All-American coming out of Charles Henderson High School of Troy, Alabama. However, he hasn't left much of a mark during his time on the Plains.
McBryde earned his undergraduate degree in August, which would make him a graduate transfer if he left Auburn. It should be noted that just because a player enters the transfer portal doesn't officially mean he will leave the school via transfer. However, it is the first step in that process.
In other news.....
- The baseball team clinched a midweek sweep of UT-Martin on Wednesday with a 2-0 win at Plainsman Park. Auburn improved to 11-2 on the season, including a 9-1 mark at home. The Tigers continue a stretch of five games this week with a series against UTSA (Texas-San Antonio) this weekend. The first game is set for today at 6 p.m. CT in Plainsman Park. The game is available online at SECN+.
- The women's basketball team erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and forced 18 second-half turnovers to pocket a pulsating 53-52 win over Alabama last night in the second round of the SEC Tournament. Although Auburn turned in its worst offensive output this season, the Tigers converted 26 Tide Turnovers into 29 points to beat its in-state rival for the third time this season. Auburn (22-8) hadn't accomplished that feat since 1975. Alabama slipped to 14-17. Janiah McKay was the only Tiger in double figures with 12 points on the night.
Auburn will move on to play third-seeded Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals tonight. Game time is approximately 7:30 p.m. CT, or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 5 p.m. CT game between South Carolina and Arkansas. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.

I'm going to be short and to the point today. Auburn basketball erased a 34-23 halftime deficit against Alabama in Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa last night to pull out a 66-60 win over the Tide, outscoring their rivals 43-26 in the second half.
Chuma Okeke led the Tiger offense with 17 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. In regards to the defense, it obviously started out lackluster, but rose up in the second half. By the end of the night, Auburn had forced 19 turnovers, 11 of which came in the final 20 minutes. They converted them into 28 points.
The Tigers haven't swept Alabama and Georgia in the same season since 1967. Auburn has also set a new single-season record in 3-pointers with 330, surpassing last season's mark of 324. The Tigers are now 21-9 on the year, 10-7 in the SEC. The Tide, meanwhile, fell to 17-13 overall, 8-9 in conference play.
Simply put, Auburn showed what happens when you never give up. They kept scrapping, fighting and clawing to the final buzzer, and therefore, were able to clinch a pivotal win. Now, the Tigers can focus on the regular-season finale against Tennessee in Auburn Arena on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. CT, and the game will be televised on ESPN. Seniors Bryce Brown, Horace Spencer, Malik Dunbar and Cole Blackstock will be honored at the game.
In other news....
- The baseball team set a season high in hits and runs yesterday in beating UT-Martin 15-9 in Plainsman Park. Auburn's 15 runs and 18 hits eclipsed the Tigers' 13-run and 15-hit output in the series finale at UCF. Six Tigers made multiple hits against UT-Martin, highlighted by a season-high four hits from Will Holland, and three each from Edouard Julien and Everett Lau, who each homered as well.
The second and final game between the two teams will begin at 4 p.m. CT this afternoon in Plainsman Park. It will be available online at SECN+.

Auburn basketball center Austin Wiley is considered "doubtful", according to head coach Bruce Pearl, for the Tigers' trip to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama tomorrow evening. This would be the ninth SEC game that he's missed this season.
Wiley is recovering after aggravating a lower leg injury during an 80-53 loss at Kentucky on Feb. 23rd. But Pearl noted that Wiley is "getting closer" to returning and he would have more information after practice this afternoon. The Tigers have two regular-season matches left on the schedule before the SEC Tournament next week in Nashville.
When asked if Wiley would be sidelined until the SEC Tournament, Pearl said: "I think that, first of all, that's a doctor and trainer decision. I do know that, when he re-aggravated the lower leg in the Kentucky game, the decision was made to go back and let it rest and get some of the inflammation out and do more of a rehab even though everything was still intact and solid. I think he does feel better as a result of that. The balance is going to be he's been on such limited minutes since his return that his effectiveness in marginalized because he's not in the kind of shape to be able to play well. His health will dictate when he's back completely. That'll be the determining factor."
Wiley has suffered three lower-leg injuries, including a stress fracture, over the past year at Auburn. Pearl assured that this injury is not a stress fracture. "Although I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, I'm not a doctor, so I'm going to leave it to a lower leg and keep you updated as far as his progress is concerned," Pearl said. "I will tell you that he did not re-injure it against Kentucky, which is good, but he aggravated the area."
Wiley has averaged 8.2 points and 4.9 rebounds a game this season. Although he has played in 21 games, he's missed eight of the last 13 heading into tomorrow night's contest at Alabama. The Tigers and Tide will face off at 8 p.m. CT, with the game being televised by ESPNU.
In other news....
- The baseball team has a mid-week series with UT-Martin in Plainsman Park, with the first game set for tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. CT. Game 2 will be played on Wednesday at the same time. Both games will be available online at SECN+.

I'm in short and sweet mode tonight due to a busy day today.
Auburn basketball pocketed a crucial win today in beating Mississippi State 80-75 in Auburn Arena. The victory avenged a 92-84 loss to the Bulldogs in Starkville on Jan. 26th. This time around, Auburn's offense was solid. Bryce Brown led the Tigers with 24 points, while Anfernee McLemore scored 14. Chuma Okeke tallied 11 and Jared Harper got 10.
The defense helped out as well, forcing 18 MSU turnovers. That tied Auburn's mark for its second-most in a game this season. The Tigers led 33-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs, to their credit, surged back in the game's waning minutes to cut a 19-point Auburn lead to four with under two minutes to play, but the Tiger defense got a big stop and Brown sank a key 3-pointer with 1:09 left to put his team up by seven.
Auburn improved to 20-9 overall, 9-7 in the conference. The Tigers will hope to continue their success on Tuesday night in a road trip to Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The game is set for 8 p.m. CT, but as of this writing, it's unclear which TV network will broadcast it. It will either air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or the SEC Network. I'm sure we'll find out which it will be either tomorrow or Monday.
In other news....
- The baseball team is in the process of a doubleheader today in its weekend series with Cincinnati. Auburn won the first game today by shutting out the Bearcats 5-0. As I write this, Game 2 is in the 5th inning, with the Tigers leading 7-4. If you're wondering why a doubleheader is being played today, the third game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but was moved to today due to incoming inclement weather. Incidentally, my area is in the same scenario. Please pray for the safety of everyone as this cold front approaches.
That's all for today. Until next time, God Bless, and WAR EAGLE!
